May is Lyme Disease awareness month. It’s a great time to share with our family & friends so that we can try to prevent getting sick from a Tick! It’s tick time, so please let’s help spread awareness of Lyme Disease & Tick-borne Illnesses.
Through education and information sharing we can learn to take precautions, recognize symptoms, and learn how to get help.
Here, I want to share a few facts and resources for you to check out and pass on. It’s important because there are over 329,000 new cases of Lyme in the USA each year, do your part to try to keep your family and friends Lyme free.
It’s more common than you think.
It seems like we never hear about “weird” sicknesses until we actually get them (TO LATE!) and then we go thru a lot of grief trying to figure out what we have, how to treat, and after we have spent countless hours searching for everything about the sickness is when all these other people appear who also have it. Lyme Disease and Tick-borne Illnesses are like that.
If you are like I was a year ago, you probably have no idea of just how easily you can become VERY sick from a Tick. I know because last summer I got bit by a tick & have been sick ever since; but i’ll save that story for another day.
Common USA Ticks & Illness
Tick Repellents
Maybe you are thinking… “I’m never going to get that” “It isn’t a big deal” “It’s not common”.
Wrong!
You can very easily get it. It can be a very big health problem. It is common.
You need to know that a TICK bite can make you very – very sick. Then when it does make you very sick, unless you have read about tick related illnesses ahead of time and have that high on your radar, you will NEVER associate all your random symptoms with a tick, and NEITHER will your Doctor!
Did you know?
-
? Lyme Disease is reported in all 50 states and more than 65 countries worldwide.
-
? There is no direct test to determine whether you have Lyme Disease or other tick illnesses/Infections. Screenings are not reliable or accurate. Most Lyme diagnosis is clinical – based on a patient’s symptoms.
-
? It progresses from early to late stage or chronic. So since it is not on physicians radars in many parts of the country to diagnose and treat Lyme, often patients are not diagnosed in an early stage. Often patients get severe symptoms and find it hard to get the diagnosis, and treatment they need.
-
? Many people that get diagnosed with Lyme never remember getting bit by a TICK.
It doesn’t matter where you live.
Do you live in the city and think you don’t have to worry? Let me ask you… do you go ever go anywhere else? Like on vacation? Have pets? Do you send your kids away to camp? Travel?

Very comprehensive article just in time for summer! We have lots of ticks in Northern Virginia and all our dogs have tested positive for lyme exposure. We now have a service that comes from April – Oct to treat our lawn so that our kids and dogs are safe. Even with this we check them all the time!
